I grew up mostly in a small town in Michigan: dirt roads, horses across the street. My favorite pastime was reading. (Anybody surprised? No?) As an adult, I’ve split my time between Michigan and Florida– not in the convenient snowbird fashion, but by living one place for several years, then the other, and traveling back and forth between extended families over holidays.
When I’m not reading or writing, I love spending time with my husband and two sons. This usually entails watching movies or playing video games. My favorite games are the Ratchet & Clank series and the two most recent Uncharted. For movies, I’m all over the map. I like action, comedy, romance, drama, and some horror (but only if it’s scary sci-fi/action or has a really great plot).
I’m a huge fan of Jesus and enjoy sharing him with students through our church’s middle school ministry. That was the age at which I began to take ownership of my faith and I’m honored to be a part of that process for others. Plus, our church has great programs for kids of all ages. You can check them out at Northridge Church.
During the fall, my Saturday schedule is dominated by cheering on the winningest team in college football. (That’s the University of Michigan — Go Blue!) We host family parties to watch important rivalries. Now that one of my nephews has followed my sister’s footsteps and become an avid State fan, we keep threatening to make him watch from the porch, but that game is early in the season and the weather’s too nice to make it a serious threat.
I’ve had a slew of favorite authors over the years. My current favorites are Patricia McKillip, Diana Wynne Jones, and Lois McMaster Bujold: McKillip, because her books always leave me wishing I could spend more time in the realms she’s created; Jones, because of her humor and plot twists; Bujold, because of her great characters and intricate stories.
